Places/Spaces/Faces
The world around us is a canvas of places and spaces that shape our experiences and interactions. From the bustling streets of urban landscapes to the tranquil solitude of untouched nature, from the intimate corners of personal spaces to the vast expanses of shared environments, and from the familiar faces of loved ones to the anonymous countenances of strangers, our surroundings and the people within them tell a myriad of stories waiting to be told.
We are excited to announce our upcoming art exhibition themed "Places/Spaces/Faces." This exhibition aims to celebrate the diversity and complexity of the world we inhabit and the individuals who populate it. Through this showcase, we seek to explore the intricate relationships between places, spaces, and faces, as well as the emotions and narratives they evoke.

Paper Clay Faces & Figures
“This project was a great opportunity for each of the artists to delve into the art of sculpting figures in a 3 dimensional form. The practice of sculpting using only your hands has been around hundreds of centuries and has continued to amaze the curiously and profound nature of how and what the artist is thinking. These clay sculptures are made of basic materials; packing paper, aluminum foil, masking tape and air drying paper clay. Set the table for a delightful and playful display of the faces we wear, the stories we tell and the figures we create.
Our process was to learn how to build and mold foundations using materials provided, and to experience the tactile process of making something solid and simplistic. The artists were able to compose these greatly unique figures of ordinary characters and tell a story of adventure, aspirations and humor in its own quirky way. Each figure is uniquely shaped into colorful whimsical characters, hand sculpted with each artist molding pieces of themselves every step of the way.” - Melissa Falco-Williams, Director of Fiber Arts
Careers
“Careers is the art project theme for the artists to express themselves using acrylic on canvas with mixed medium. This art project is for the artists to express themselves in who they are and what they would hope to achieve in their lives. The idea was to aspire to have a career when they were a child and now that they are adults. What career did they want to become when they grew up. As we can see, the artists have some great career choices. Examples: health care worker, artist, baker, carpenter, teacher, etc. The artists are serious about how they see themselves and to participate in life.” - Edmound Veyna, Fine Arts Instructor
Lineal Spaces
“Lineal Spaces is about taking familiar spaces and transforming them into line illustrations. In this project Artists of L.A. GOAL explore dimension and dual colors to create line Illustrations of Los Angeles. Working with colors that could create dimension, mainly limited colors, and line work, this project explores topics of movement and shadow while using various line techniques with markers to create unique landscapes.” - Amoura Gonzales, Fine Arts Instructor
Illoominated
“A play on words, ‘Illoominated’ combines the art of loom-weaving with the medieval art of illuminated manuscript. The process involves creating a tapestry by weaving yarn onto a loom and then attaching a small canvas painting onto the surface. Within the painting contains a unique symbol or letter-design which signifies an aspiration such as traveling to a foreign country or taking up star-gazing. The project aims to explore mixed-media and hybrid forms of art making that overlap and compliment each other.” - Jeff Hansen, Fiber Arts Instructor
